I want to make my students excited to come to class. I want to use the video camera to have students make PSA videos and documentaries showing the injustices of the world like the effects of war, exploitation of resources and people, the global immigration debate, and extreme poverty in places like South America and Africa. I want students to take a proactive approach to learning where they get to make a difference rather than just read about the issues and take a test.
By taking ownership of the material, they will be global citizens who can make a difference in the world around them. I plan on having students submitting video projects to corporations, government officials, and other citizens of the world helping them make informed decisions on who to support and what they can do to make changes for the better. As a social studies teacher, it's my responsibility to help students realize their ability to influence others around them to make our world a more positive place to live.
