As a first year teacher, my students do not have access to a classroom library that will help them explore new genres of literature and find something they really love and connect with. We will begin an Independent Reading unit where students will explore fiction and multicultural literature with the goal of finding a novel they truly love. Students will complete a blog over the course 6 weeks about their novel. Because of the demographics of our school, the accessibility of great literature and review books to study with can make it difficult for students to reach their full stride with reading and writing. This is why I've included a class set of AP Language and composition review books. As a school we've made taking the AP test accessible by paying for it. I think they deserve the same review books as other students taking the AP test in different districts across the country.
