Students in our school district do what they can with what they have. We are not given a large budget and the majority of the community is low-income. Students play on instruments handed down and many play on instruments that are broken and held together by duct tape (really!) The school tries to supply as many instruments as possible, but with limited finances and an extremely old inventory - it is hard to keep things in working order all the time. Our program has been growing in the past 8 years. There are over 60 students involved in the high school band program (in a school of less than 350) and we do many things in our community and performing. We do competitive marching, have a healthy jazz program, and our concert band receives high ratings at contest. Recently we took first place in our division at two recent parades. The kids don't have a lot of money, but they have a lot of passion!
