By bringing quality fiction and nonfiction literature to our classroom library, our students will be able to achieve massive growth in their vocabulary, understanding, and communicative ability. Students need a variety of materials to find a good fit, and this project reflects a spectrum of requisite skill levels and text types. Research shows that reading is the most powerful way to increase proficiency in any language. As a first-year teacher, I am looking to build a lasting library of materials for my students to enjoy over and over again in their quest for Spanish proficiency. I currently have enough reading materials for each student to have a book of their own to read during our daily free reading time, but very little variety. This project will give each student a chance to find "their" book - the one whose content they devour with intense curiosity, forgetting that it's in Spanish because they just want to know what happens next. By donating to this project, you are giving our students a chance to become proficient Spanish speakers and global citizens - an invaluable gift for their (and our) future! ¡Queremos leer! – We want to read!
