Students in my district struggle to read at or even near grade level. Giving them access to challenging text that are engaging and meaningful is essential. These texts will be used by students in three Sociology classes, exploring issues of poverty, race, class, and family. As important, these text will be used to support literacy skills, as well as explore their own social-emotion growth and development. Providing a copy for each student, to show that they are valued as readers and learners, is essential for their success. Many of my students have never read a book fully from cover-to-cover. Providing "The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates" for my students will help ensure that they don't leave high school without reading about and exploring the critical life lessons this book contains.
