Everyday my students come to class with wide eyes and smiles eager to learn something new and explore the world of science. It is such a pleasure teaching them since they love asking questions and are always curious about the world around them. We are in a Title I school in Queens where students come from a variety of cultural, racial and socio-economic backgrounds. Their diverse backgrounds are valuable to the class as they each bring unique perspectives and experiences.
My students are hardworking, visual learners who learn best when they have hands-on experiences. I strive to cultivate their curiosity about science topics and encourage them to take ownership of their learning by allowing them to design investigations. My classes primarily consist of English Language Learners. While they are eager to learn, they sometimes struggle learning abstract science concepts due to these challenges.
