I work with a diverse group of students coming from various ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. I work primarily with 8th graders as they prepare for an SLP Exam (Second Language Proficiency) as well as meeting requirements for graduating and succeeding academically.
I work with my students to make sure that their emotional needs are met as well through relationship building and restorative justice based approaches. I strive to create a safe environment where students want to come in and learn. With several students having other languages at home other than English, for many students learning Spanish is their 3rd or 4th language that is being taught, so my class involves a lot of transferrable skills and helping develop general language acquisition.
Many of my students are technology dependent, and while technology is important I want to make sure they learn using different styles as well.
