99% of my students receive free and reduced-price lunch. Our school tries to supplement by sending snacks home for the weekend. However, this is not enough! By filling a child's heart by loving them and their stomachs by feeding them, their minds will be open to learn. Our grade level has a really late lunch. Students are able to bring snacks from home to eat mid-morning, but most of my students do not have anything to bring. Those who do bring snacks cannot afford healthy ones. I've been trying to pay out of pocket or asking for donations. I want to build a cupboard of snacks, so that all students have the same access to nutritional food and juice. The nutri-grain bars, chewy granola bars, and crunchy granola bars will supplement those that are still hungry after the small breakfast from the cafeteria. The Easy Mac and applesauce will help fill tummies that are still hungry after lunchtime and/or go home to help feed students dinner. The Cheez-Its,pretzels, popcorn, crackers, fruit snacks, and chips will provide mid-morning snacks. My students deserve the opportunity to grow by being provided with healthy snacks! Long days at school are already hard enough for nine-year old children without having to endure it hungry!
