My students are recent immigrants from countries as diverse as Vietnam, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cape Verde, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Somalia. They attend a 1-2 year program of accelerated English instruction before they join more "traditional" school settings. As a whole, they are wonderfully motivated to learn. Most come from countries where education is a privilege not a right. And they have big plans for the future and know that learning English is the first step to achievement.
