Research shows that providing alternative seating options in the classroom allows students to work in a space that will enhance their focus. With a fulfilled project my classroom will look and feel quite different. Students that need to burn extra energy can choose to sit on an exercise ball, those that need extra stimulation can choose a wobble cushion, those that work best on the ground can choose a mat, etc. This will allow students to be more comfortable and devote more focus to their work. Students spend a lot of time in the classroom, and need to be comfortable! When I think of how I like to work, I don't think of sitting in a hard plastic chair, I think of sitting on the floor or in a nice cushy chair; my students are no different.
