My kindergarteners have been working very hard to learn how to read picture books in our classroom by reading the pictures, reading the words, and retelling the stories. To increase their confidence and build a love of reading, they need books that are at their own reading level. Many of the emergent and leveled readers include simple words, sight words, and one or two sentences per page. As students increase their fluency and comprehension, they will move to the next reading level, so I am asking for an assortment of books at multiple reading levels to reach each student and their individual needs. When students have a variety of just-right books, it not only increases their confidence, but it allows them to be successful and enthusiastic about learning to read. As a first year teacher, I have relied heavily on donations and have received many picture books, but my students are in need of these just-right, leveled books. These just-right books will help them improve their reading skills and build a lifelong love of reading!
