These students are in a brand new classroom and money is tight. They are using second hand books and materials, and many of them are starting to fall apart. Often special education classrooms get leftovers and unwanted items and we piece together what we can with the scraps to help these kids. These children deserve to access new technology to help them learn. In my classroom an iPad will be used to help students learn to communicate with different speech programs. They will use it to take pictures and send messages to their families about their learning, in ways that are traditionally limited with just a note home from the teacher. Giving these kids access to new technology will open their worlds and send the message that they are worthy of good things.
