I have an SLC classroom of varying levels of autistic students. Each child is interesting and unique. One loves Michael Jackson and can tell you anything about him. One loves a stuffed rat that is hanging on my threads. Another student calls himself Maria, although that is not his name. They are all fascinating and teach me something about myself every day. My school is a Title I school with a large emphasis on the arts. The staff is compassionate and fun. The school has about 1700 students, so the halls are busy with children no matter what time you go out in the hall. This is the first year an SLC has been on this campus, and we are all learning. I came here to open this class, and it has been challenging but a joy. I find myself running into obstacles and needing to accommodate, but it will get there. I can't wait to have all I need to get everything running the way I envision it to run.
