People always say, “My students are the best,” and I know it sounds cliché, but it’s true. Every year I get a different group of students, and every year they end up being exactly the students I need. As I grow and change as a person and a teacher, they help me grow too. I don’t just teach them—they teach me. They make me a better teacher, a better person, and a better listener. My students support me just as much as I support them, and they are a huge part of why I love teaching middle school. I get to be there during some of the most important years of their lives as they figure out who they are and start forming opinions about everything. It’s fun, refreshing, and sometimes hilarious to hear their ideas and see their personalities come out in and out of the classroom. Watching them grow throughout the year is one of my favorite parts of the job.
