My school is located in a under-served and underutilized community. The community used to be home to a CHA housing project that was recently demolished. Most children that attend my school have lived in this neighborhood their entire lives, others have moved into this neighborhood from similar neighborhoods. My students are either African American, or Hispanic. Some of them do not live the best situations. My students are strong! They have been through many obstacles in life, and they still remain strong and committed to their learning. They do not have many things to call their own at home or at school. Most of my students come to school unprepared daily. I do the best that I can to try and provide them with materials that I know they need. Although our school does not receive much funding for learning materials, all of our teachers go out of their way to make sure that our students feel that they are loved and cared about. Sometimes it's as simple as a pencil, other times it's a hug.
