My 6th grade students attend a Title 1 school and receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of them have very strenuous home lives and struggle with their academics, partly because they take on much more responsibility at home other than being a preteen. For a lot of these kids, sports and the arts are outlets which they are extremely successful at, in turn boosting their self esteemed and giving them the confidence they need in order to do better academically. Theater happens to be one of these outlets.
