My students are struggling readers in the bottom 20% of the school population. My students are kindergartners through 4th graders and they often lack motivation, lack interest and feel quite defeated most of the time. My students come from an average achieving school, but fall far below state and school standards. My students qualify for Title I services and/or special education services. They are hard workers, and are always searching my classroom library for books to borrow. My students go to the school library weekly, but often times feel embarrassed to choose a book at their level and pick books that their friends or classmates might find to be cool. They are students that when they come to my room love to browse through my classroom library for a book to borrow, but are reluctant to pick one when they are in the school library.
