With such a huge diverse population of students and ELL learners that come from high poverty backgrounds, many come with minimal or no literacy skills. This means that even their primary language development is already behind peers who have the access to education, opportunities, and experiences. This provides them a huge challenge when learning to read, write, and comprehend in school with today's benchmarks and expectations. I work with many learners where their fine motor skills are very underdeveloped for their grade level. Getting some composition notebooks for grade levels K - 2 and 3 - 5 with primary ruled writing lines will be helpful for them to write and have the space to do so.
