As a first year teacher, I am having a difficult time providing my children with a more diverse library. I want my children to continue to utilize their books as mirrors and windows to the world. I've done research on these books to make sure they are age and culturally appropriate for our children. I work with children K through 5, and I often have a difficult time finding books for my boys. With this said, I currently only have a book they all enjoy to read and that is, "Uncle Jed's Barbershop." I received it as a donation to the classroom. I couldn't help but cry when I got positive feedback (from my kids) on this book!
