We are currently learning about how fossils are made, what they tell us about the past, and what paleontologists use to excavate fossils. This culminating experience will be the highlight of our learning! Students will exhibit perseverance, responsibility, initiative, and collaboration as they excavate their own mini dig sites. The Toysmith Dig A Dino Excavation Kit Series III 3-Pack Dinosaurs, Toysmith Dig A Dino Excavation, Ultimate Dinosaur Science Kit–Dig Up Dino Fossils and Assemble a T-Rex Skeleton!, Liberty Imports Dinosaur Skeleton 3D Dino Fossil Bones Excavation Science Kit - Stegosaurus, and Dinosaur Skeleton 3D Dino Fossil Bones Excavation Science Kit - Triceratops kits contain several real fossils and mini dinosaur models as well as tools paleontologist use, which my students have learned about in previous lessons. Students will use the tools included in the set to excavate these fossils and bones, which they will later assemble. Each student will also get a keepsake from their excavation to take home. Through this activity, they will practice using tools that paleontologists use and record information about their dig site as they act like real paleontologist. This is an experience my students will remember for many years to come!
