By incorporating a color-mixing apparatus, a wavelength and spectrum demonstrator, and solar panels into a project-based classroom, I hope to give students a chance to be hands-on with understanding these two topics. Students will be able to see solar energy create electricity and mix colors of light themselves. Light and Energy are two of the toughest topics to teach students in Physics. Over ten years of teaching physical science, these are two areas where students consistently struggle the most. Why? Everything is so theoretical. Just as light helps us see, I believe that this equipment will help students see and understand the concepts. Students will have the opportunity to experience reflection using mirrors, refraction using refraction cells and blocks, absorption using solar cells and energy beads, and color mixing using color mixing apparatus. Additionally, students will be able to get a better understanding of what wavelength does (and not just what it is) as we use the wavelength and spectrum demonstrator.
