The school/community is located in the northeastern section of Memphis. The make-up of this community and school population is composed of a diverse body of people. The students that I service on a daily basis come from a very diverse background: Vietnamese, Hispanics, African Americans, Arabic, and Whites. The students’ vocabulary, grammar, and writing skills range from advanced to below proficient. Many of them lack the necessary vocabulary and English language needed to perform on a proficient level. On the other hand, the students come to school everyday prepared to learn. They are very outgoing, determined, and open to learning about other people and their way of life. Most of them take getting their education serious because they want to help support their family. Also, the students that I work with love to engage in hands-on and group activities. They tend to learn better because they are learning while doing and manipulating things. Many of them enjoy working with their peers.
