Each day, my students participate in literacy and math centers. The boys and girls rotate around the room, and work together to accomplish a set goal at each station. Groups are leveled and students are always working toward individualized goals. The boys and girls are often on the move retrieving manipulatives, using tablets, or seeking evidence which can help them support their thinking. As you can imagine, with all of this movement and differentiated discussion, the classroom volume level can become overwhelming at times. I like to think of centers as organized chaos. While technology can be a beautiful enrichment tool, tablet games and activities can be loud at times. Headphones would help decrease the overall volume level, and make literacy and math stations more enjoyable and productive. Discussion would not be interrupted by unnecessary noise, and students could delve deeper into their thinking. A docking station would provide a central location for our technology center, and would help students charge their tablets. When students rotate to the next station, the technology would be ready to go.
