I am a Head Start VPK teacher. I have the privilege to teach some of the districts youngest and neediest children. The goal of Head Start in to help fill the educational gaps and to give students a head start academically and social emotionally. My classroom is composed of 20 economically disadvantaged students.These students come from a wide range of backgrounds and families. I have students who come to me from non-traditional families. Such as, living with grandparents or other family members. Unfortunately, some of my students have faced some sort of trauma in their young lives and the program helps to put them in touch with local agencies to help get their individual needs met. It is our mission to not only help these children to achieve academically, but also socially. We serve the whole child.
