Today's students very different from those in the past! They are highly mobile and have received a great deal of sensory stimuli since birth. Because of this they have a vastly different learning styles from their predecessors and different learning needs. Today's learners need to be able to move in a constructed way that also facilitates learning. Research has shown that classroom comfort strongly encourages higher levels of student engagement and more time on task. I want to create for my students a comfortable and inviting learning space with multiple seating options- a classroom environment that encourages high levels of engagement and fosters a deep and life-long passion for learning while reflecting their learning styles. Our class currently has some flexible seating options but not enough for everyone. To these we would LOVE to add some Hokki stools, a peanut ball, and floor seats so that each student can self-select the seating that enables them to best achieve their learning goals. The power of student choice that these seating options would provide would help to foster positive character traits in my students by encouraging them to take ownership for their own learning while developing conflict resolution and cooperation skills. We would very much appreciate any help that you can give us in creating this classroom environment!
