My kiddos are the most amazing people I've ever met. They come in ready to learn English for themselves and for the betterment of their families. If you were to visit, you could say hello to us in Arabic, Mandarin, French, Lingala, Nepali, Karen, Burmese, Spanish and many other languages. Our family is made up of an ethnically, linguistically, and culturally diverse group of beautiful little people who love and care for one another. I have seen more human connection in these kids than I have ever seen in my 9 years as a teacher. They are truly a special bunch!
Our school is in a city where more than half of the children live in poverty, with close to 20% living in extreme poverty which is described as families of 4 with an income of less than $11,925/year. Despite these dire conditions, my little learners know the way to a better life is through hard work, perseverance, and taking control of their own education. They inspire me every day to work my hardest and smile my brightest.
