Having a Scholastic News subscription will help our students in so many ways! It will expose our students to fun informational text. Students will look forward to getting their own magazine each week, and we will enjoy the variety of content, as well as the ways I can integrate what we read into science, social studies, math, and writing lessons. The laptop I have requested will provide a place where students can further explore what we have read and discussed in our magazines. I can use the laptop to teach students how to independently research the topics we have read about, and the importance (and fun!) of continuing to learn about a topic that is of interest to them. Students in my class need a balanced and well-rounded education, and they need all the background knowledge I can give them. Reading these magazines will expose our kids to current events, rich vocabulary, and a wide variety of knowledge. It will not only help them become more proficient readers, but it will help them connect their learning to what goes on around them. A magazine, a laptop, and some friendly discussion may open the door to many possibilities for these awesome learners!
