This first grade class is made up of 11 boys and 11 girls, where 18 of these students speak a different language and are learning English. We love coming to school and are enthusiastic learners, but with our language barrier it is hard without more basic fundamentals and hands on materials. Our school is a high poverty school, where a lot of our families share apartments with other families. The parents of our students work two to three jobs just to get by and do not have a lot of time to help their child with reading, writing, and/or math. This is my second year teaching and my first year in first grade, which is why I don't have a lot of resources to use in my classroom.
