We are one of two fourth grade classes in an Expeditionary Learning School in a small city in Maine. We are a highly diverse, pre-k through 5 school. Our ELL (English Language Learner) population is over 50% and growing quickly. Last year we welcomed several "newcomers" to our school from various countries, including Turkey, Ethiopia, Sudan and Angola. Many of these families rely on state and federal assistance to get by. Since our free and reduced-price lunch rate is over 76%, the entire school receives free breakfast and lunch.
