Our K-6 school is currently a mix of about 450 brilliant minds. Unfortunately, we only have 120 Chromebooks to serve their constant curiosity. As a staff, we use a "check-out" system to use the Chromebooks which means my class of 31 gets their time with technology about once a week. However, during those precious minutes with the Chromebooks, I have students actively engaged in subjects ranging from math, writing, and science. Having a set of 8 Chromebooks would not only allow students in our school greater access to technology, but students in my class would then be able to have consistent access to research materials, educational math websites, and their online science curriculum. Chromebooks would allow us to collaborate on sites such as Google Docs and Google Classroom. Students can practice math skills on sites such as Khan Academy and Zearn. They can also have equitable access to their Amplify Science curriculum which has many online components. Lastly, students would have the chance to learn how to safely navigate the internet. My plan for the Chromebooks is to integrate them into as many subjects as possible to increase engagement and teach technology skills that the future needs to succeed.
