My kindergarteners are awesome! They study language arts in their primary language, math, science, art, ELD, and several other subjects. They are pros at rotations and they can tell you which ELD group, which color group or which expert group everyone belongs to which can be very daunting, but these kids have mastered it. We are a high poverty, low socioeconomic school where 90% receive free or reduced lunch. We are also the magnet school for our GATE and Bilingual programs for our district. Most of our students are English language learners, whose parents speak very little English themselves. But that does not deter them. We are a very open and welcoming school and our school population reflects that. We always have high participation at our school events such as our walkathon, movie nights, parent trainings, talent show, campus clean up days, and fundraisers. Many of our families have been with us for several years and we have all bonded into a very extended family.
