Recent research suggests that for children with attention disorders, moving, spinning and bouncing in their chairs correlated with better classroom performance and behavior. My students work in collaborative groups to allow for maximum student interaction, but the hard chairs do not suit the needs of my active and fidgety students. My students are becoming more self-directed learners, and by creating a comfortable environment they are able to develop the habits of life-long learners. By giving my students a choice in seating such as Wobble Chairs and fitness balls, I am giving them the ability to direct their focus on learning. Children are naturally different and diverse, and just like one-size education doesn't fit all, neither do the chairs.
