The students in my Transitional-First grade classroom are seven of the most inquisitive, outgoing, determined, energetic, and hilarious kiddos that I know. Unfortunately, from the moment they step in my classroom door, they are already performing behind their more affluent peers. Many of my students are from households where English is a Second Language and find themselves navigating a somewhat challenging language barrier. Inside the four walls of my classroom, my students are becoming voracious readers, gobbling up books and growing their brains. In just ten short months, I watch them go from having difficulty identifying letters and sounds to becoming independent readers.
