My students come from many different backgrounds. About 60% are native speakers of Spanish. The other 40% come from English dominant homes and encountered Spanish for the first time when they started school. They're the 1st dual language group we have ever had which means we are still building our resources to meet their needs. They began in different places, but three years later, they share two languages and a bilingual, bicultural perspective. From the day school began, they have all been impressing me with the ease and confidence with which they switch between languages. This is a class of voracious readers who beg to be allowed to read in our library during every free moment. Though they read at different levels, they all love to have and interact with books. Many of my students have few to no books in their home, especially the harder-to-find, more expensive Spanish books. Our classroom library is a haven
