As a social justice educator, I plan to create several opportunities for students to build community and work together. In order for this to be successful, I need to be able to support small groups by creating several comfortable spaces throughout our classroom for students to spread out and learn together. The rug requested will be placed at our classroom library and help create an inviting and comfortable place for students to immerse themselves in developing their reading identities. The wobble cushion flexible seating requested will also support students during independent reading time as they spread out throughout our classroom, making reading a novelty. In addition, the floor seat and knitted pouf provide students with other seating options as they work together in pairs or small groups. As a first-year teacher, this project also includes everyday resources and materials that will help jumpstart the school year and ensure all my students thrive! This includes pencil sharpeners, washable paint for our arts integration and a laminator to safe-keep student work and projects.
