The students attend a charter middle school in southern California. 99% of them qualify for free or reduced price lunch. About 40% are African American and 60% Latino. My students are highly motivated to learn, but often lack the resources or support to achieve their potential. Teachers at my school are always sharing classroom supplies and resources because we cannot afford to pay for all that is needed to provide our students with the most engaging learning experiences as possible. While our students are eager to learn, they do face great obstacles in becoming college-ready. Most of our students are reading well below grade level and did not come prepared with basic numeracy, such as multiplication and division skills. These basic skills are preventing our students access to college-ready curriculum. Please help us fund resources that will enable teachers to close these skill gaps!
