Students walk into my classroom daily needing a safe and comforting environment. While our school is learning more and more about being a trauma informed practices, I have learned that a large number of my students are overcoming many obstacles outside of the classroom that make it hard for them to focus. My students need an environment that is comfortable, safe and feels inviting to learn. Offering students a choice of seating that is comfortable will allow for further engagement than traditional seating. Allowing my students choices of wobble cushions or bouncing balls allows for movement while working and encourage engagement in work. Offering choices teaches student to make choices that are best for them and their learning.
