Walking in late for the 5th consecutive day that week, my first grader handed me a tardy note with the word "Homeless" scribbled on the top. I bit my bottom lip to keep myself from crying because it all made sense. No homework was being turned in, no school uniform was worn, and no smile ever lit up her small face. Not all my students are in such dire circumstances but one too many have to deal with serious situations that keep them from reaching their full potential. My students attend a school with a high poverty rate-over 90%! Poverty and a high transient rate inhibit the most basic uses of technology in order to build a hobby, nurture a talent, or just plain amuse oneself.
