Gloves provide students safe means to maintain and care for their Community Garden. They allow them to pull thorny and sticky weeds safely and free from fear of nasty pokes. They also allow them to construct signage, planters, and other garden furnishings from reclaimed wood known to have splinters and old nails. They can use garden equipment such as rakes, hoes and shovels to keep these weeds from growing back without growing blisters on their hands. Learning how to safely create, maintain, and grow a home garden will give these deserving students a lifetime of joy and healthy food alternatives.
