I am a Middle School teacher and will be teaching English Language Arts and Art classes to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students for the 2017-2018 school year. Each grade consists of about 35 to 40 students. The demographics of the students in these grades are roughly 80% Native American, 15% Hispanic, and 5% Caucasian. The school is located within the Round Valley Indian Reservation and participates in 100% free and reduced lunch as well as being a Title 1 school. The students are incredibly talented and brilliant. The school setting is the one stable component in their lives that highlights their successes and pushes them to achieve beyond what they believe is possible. School also provides students with a stable environment and experiences that many are not able to acquire at home. Within my classroom students experience a safe space that asks them to try and achieve what is possible for themselves.
