My students need 15 Nature's Care Organic Soil and 100 lbs of Organic Worm Casting Fertilizer, along with five bags of Michigan Peat, bamboo stakes and flower support clips to continue the successful growing of organic vegetables in our school's urban garden. The organic fertilizer will continue to supply the garden with the needed nutrients to yield a successful harvest, which in turn will supply the school's community with organic vegetables. In the past, we used branches as makeshift trellises to hold up the sugar snap peas, but they were never sturdy enough. The bamboo trellis will provide the strength to allow the sugar snap peas and other vining plants the vertical space needed to grow. The tomato cages will hold the tomato plants, which we start as seedlings, to grow with the support needed so it doesn't fall over when the plant matures. Our watering hose does not have a nozzle, so the water pressure isn't quite controllable. With the nozzle sprayer, water will go to garden beds more evenly. The raised garden beds and organic soil will be an addition to the current urban garden, which was also funded by Donor's Choose, so students can grow more fruits and vegetables. The donations to this project will improve our school's first urban garden by expanding the garden itself and make the previous raised beds more nutrient rich, since the start of the garden 2 years ago. With the additional garden beds and the fertilizer, the students will figuratively and literally see the fruits of their labor.
