As a newer teacher in a Title 1 school, my classroom library only has bits and pieces of literature I have been able afford. However, my students deserve so much more than that. They deserve the right to choose a book that satisfies their own interests thus keeping them motivated to read. If students are not able to find books that they are interested in, they'll lose motivation in reading. I do not want my students to lose interest in reading simply because they cannot find anything. First graders are budding readers and they look forward to finding new texts that challenge and teach them new things. With a larger classroom library filled with so many different choices, my students' motivation to read will soar!
