Horace Mann is a high achieving public school with a lot of parent involvement. We are not a Title 1 school, and that means we do not get any extra funding. The principal uses all extra funds for staff. The PTA provides money for our copy machine and copy paper. Families are asked to contribute most school supplies; including tape, post-its, and extra copy paper. I have a looping class. I teach kindergarten one year and first grade the next; keeping the same students. This provides an extra 6 weeks head start to the first grade year. I already know my students and we hit the ground running in September! I have 24 students in kindergarten this year. They are a wonderful group with a variety of learning styles with a great range of abilities.
