My "friends" are all Special Education students. They are grades Transitional Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. They are young ladies and gentlemen with even greater challenges than those that typically developing students face each day. It's tough enough to be a student but, when you have a disability, the issues involved are magnified. They are great young men and women who because of their "exceptionalities" have difficulties with the typical expectations of being in school. They daily face countless obstacles when confronted with the simplest of educational tasks. They are capable of learning but often need extreme assistance to level the playing field and keep them competitive with peers who are typically developing.
