With these donations, I plan to provide my students with a classroom library that allows them to "travel" to different places and meet different people, while in the comfort of the classroom, playground, or at home. When students read texts that are of interest to them, it fosters a love for words and provides teachable moments for reading and comprehension strategies. Without an extensive classroom library, students wouldn't have this opportunity. As a new teacher, I have very few personal possessions to offer to my students, and I believe that one of the first necessities is to provide them an abundance of books.
