Our school is a comprehensive public urban high school with 75% of our scholars on free or reduced lunch. Once upon a time we were mischaracterized with one of those terrible 'underperforming' labels and have quickly taken amazing strides in improving our school's performance and college/life readiness culture. These days, our scholars are graduating with more college credits than ever and many are leaving with Associates Degrees from the local community college. Along with growth comes curiosity and these gals and guys are ready to make the the move from digital consumers to creators. Our campus already has a health science program and I know our go-getters would love to diversify those certifiable skills with a better understanding of computer science and computational thinking-- Skill sets that could change the trajectory of students and their families' lives while lowering the diversity gap in tech industries.
