I have a wonderful group of students this year at Falls Lake Academy, full of vibrant young scientific scholars! My Earth and Environmental Science students want to learn how to make a true difference through their education, and hands on learning is the best way to gain the experience necessary for community and world changing ideas. While my students understand that learning through notes and reading is sometimes required, they yearn for more hands on activities that truly get them excited and keep them engaged. Topics we are covering that my students are especially excited for include natural disasters (earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, hurricanes), the water cycle (groundwater supplies, pollution, acid rain), human impact on the lithosphere (deforestation, agriculture, urbanization and land use), weather and climate (air pollution, patterns of climate change, weather patterns), and human sustainability.
