Our high school is an English language immersion school. Students fulfill all NY State requirements, as they master English as a Second Language. My "job" is to provide them with skills, as they prepare their minds and their hearts for college and beyond. Students come from all over the world, including countries like Yemen, Pakistan, the Dominican Republic, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Ecuador, Albania, Mexico, El Salvador and many of the West African countries. Their first languages include, but are not limited to Arabic, Urdu, Spanish, Bengali and French. They are incredibly hard working teenagers whose families are sacrificing for them to have a strong education here in the United States. My students value their education and diligently work to improve their content knowledge as well as language skills. They impress me every day with their tenacity and resilience.
