The nonfiction collection at PHS has low circulation and takes up approximately 76% of our total collection with an average age of 1998. In an effort to engage our students with nonfiction for both choice reads and academic pursuits, we are looking to update and diversify the collection. Our students deserve to engage with nonfiction that clearly reflects their social, cultural and racial backgrounds. It is clear that the current collection is lacking in cultural representation, is outdated and in some cases obsolete. As our students engage socially and politically in our communities, it is increasingly important that have access to an array of voices. The texts selected are representative of a diverse set of voices and cultural backgrounds. All books will be available to all students for check out both at home via curbside and in person when school resumes face to face.
