The students that attend my school come from diverse backgrounds: Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Ecuador, Ghana, Liberia, Bangladesh, Albania... Many are the first in their families born in the United States, some are new arrivals to the States. What they have in common is they attend a high-performing public middle school. Unfortunately, the surroundings for my students are not inspiring. Too many face dangerous obstacles just in getting to and from school and unable to come to school on the first day prepared.
